Wolves in Germany: Farmers fear for their livestock

It has been over 150 years since gray wolves were driven out of Germany. Now the predator with the mournful cry is making a howling comeback.

For several years, wolves have been returning to their old hunting grounds in increasing numbers. Conservationists and environmentalists are ecstatic, but farmers and shepherds are not amused.

The wolves prefer boar and deer meat, they’ll kill the occasional sheep in a pinch. Some farmers would like to legalize wolf hunting again. Government officials are struggling to find a way to protect wolves and livestock at the same time.
