Russia says it’s considering retaliatory measures against the US after Washington imposed sanctions on a Russian company for aiding North Korea.
Russia’s foreign ministry said the decision would be taken by the country’s leadership. The U-S Treasury imposed sanctions on a Russian port service agency and two Chinese companies. The department argued that they had aided North Korean ships and sold alcohol and tobacco to Pyongyang in breach of U-S sanctions.
The Treasury said the Russian-based firm provided port services to North Korean-flagged ships. Washington has been pressuring Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons program. The North says the US is back-pedaling on its promises made during the Kim-Trump summit in June.
North Korea has described U-S proposals on denuclearization as gangster-like.
