‘Transgender candidate discusses landmark win’

Danica Roem is an American journalist and politician of the Democratic Party from Northern Virginia. In the 2017 elections, she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. Roem won the Democratic primary on June 13, 2017, and the general election on November 7, 2017. She is set to become the first openly transgender person to both be elected to a U.S. state’s legislature and serve her term.

Democrat Danica Roem became the first openly transgender person to be elected to state office by defeating a 13-term incumbent who refused to debate her.
